Workshop: Live Coding in Hydra
This workshop by Flor de Fuego introduces Hydra: a live code-able video synth and coding environment to create visuals live and control live cameras, all on the browser. Hydra is a web-based open source platform created by Olivia Jack that can be used for several artistic purposes, including live performance (even collaborative and collective) and art installations.
During the workshop, you will learn how to experiment with and generate different code functions, distortions of images and cameras to create your own visuals. We will also explore how to control webcams or live cameras combined with the program. At the end of the session you will not only have a general understanding of Hydra, but you’ll also be able to interact with the code and use it to perform operations such as altering images and cameras.
With years of experience as an active community collaborator of Hydra, Flor de Fuego is a a digital-craft artist working with programming and live coding to create performative experiences. She has taken part in several international and local festivals individually as well as in collaboration with other artists. Flor is part of CLiC, a live coders collective from Argentina. She is currently partaking in an artistic residency at CCU.
No previous knowledge is required to join the workshop. Make sure to bring your laptop, webcam, and (if possible) a camera (with capture card). Please keep in mind that the workshop will be held in English.
