Ground Finissage: The Multispecies Concert
In the evening of November 22, from 20:00 to 22:00, the Multispecies Concert carries the day’s themes into a new, performative space. It builds on the earlier explorations of listening, learning and multispecies collaboration, and invites visitors to sense ecological relationships through sound.
Programme
19:45 - Doors open
20:00 - Mudcell Composition I by Niels Gräber and Isaac van den Aker
20:40 - Sonified Garden by Sunjoo Lee and Kohran Erel
21:20 - Live Coding Audio-Visual Performance by Nico García Peguinho
The concert opens with Niels Gräber and Isaac van den Aker, who create sound with with the microbial life of Sunjoo Lee’s Electric Garden. Their sound performance Mudcell Composition I is a system to co-create sound with electrogenic bacteria: their fluctuating voltages actively shaping the composition, changing rhythms and frequencies.
Interdisciplinary artist Sunjoo Lee and Berlin-based electronic musician, improviser and composer artist Korhan Erel join forces with the audio-visual performance Sonified Garden. On a sunny August day, Korhan and Sunjoo took a deep listen to the Electric Garden’s vibrant soundscape. Inspired by its living energies, they created an audiovisual performance shaped by the garden’s fermenting ecosystem.
Artist and researcher Nico García-Peguinho closes the concert with a Live Coding Audio-Visual Performance based on the extensive aural dataset of the Sensing the Alice Holt Forest project. Through field recordings, machine listening and MIR techniques, the performance shifts between the voices of the forest and the hidden patterns revealed when technology interprets them.
Ground’s finissage is a moment to gather, listen and gently close the season together. It invites visitors to consider how attention, care and ecological curiosity might continue beyond this programme, carrying its questions into future environments, collaborations and practices.
