Artist talk with Ivan Henriques
Join us for an evening of speculating about what it means to live in symbiosis with more-than-human others. Our speaker Ivan Henriques is environmentalist, transdisciplinary artist and researcher. His work explores hybrids of living and non-living systems, creating installations that resonate between humans, other organisms and their environments.
In this talk, he will share grounded examples and speculative ideas on attunement between living and inorganic systems. Expect a journey into multispecies encounters, symbiosis, and possible collaborations for shared futures on a damaged planet.
By presenting selected works, Ivan will show how he develops living technologies: hybrid systems where plants, fungi, and microorganisms interact with machines, sensors, and artificial intelligence. These works open up new perspectives on non-human forms of intelligence, propose alternative ways of collaborating with ecosystems, and imagine sustainable futures where technology and the natural world evolve together.
Marieke Meesters will do the introductory talk, she is a researcher and writer engaged in exploring human excreta (“humanure”) as part of sustainable and circular food and soil systems. Her work is rooted in provocative questions about what society considers “waste,” how we can reclaim lost nutrient cycles, and how culture, hygiene, ethics and ecology intertwine.
